TrekkiesFor the fans of Star Trek themselves, see Trekkie. Trekkies is a 1997 documentary film directed by Roger Nygard about the devoted fans of Gene Roddenberry's series Star Trek. Starring Denise Crosby, the movie goes around interviewing people who are into Star Trek, or more commonly knows as Trekkies. The fans range from people dressed as Klingons to members of Brent Spiner fan clubs to a club working on a Star Trek movie of their own. Trekkies includes many Star Trek actors and fans, including Barbara Adams, the famous juror who went to the trial of the Whitewater scandal in her Star Trek Uniform. In 2003, a sequel was launched, titled Trekkies 2. This documentary travels throughout the world, mainly in Europe, to show fans of Star Trek that do not live in the United States. The argument that Trekkie is the correct term is settled once and for all by the director of Trekkies Roger Nygard by this post on the official web-site for the documentary. When a fan posed the question of why the film was called Trekkies and not Trekker, Mr Nygard had this to say: Gene Roddenberry's former assistant and 'Star Trek' researcher, told us the following story, and that clinched it for us. 'Trekker' actually has it's origins in the early days. When the media picked up on the word 'Trekkies,' some of the fans thought that sounded too much like 'Crazies'. Gene (Roddenberry) didn't recognize the term 'Trekker' however. Somebody once corrected him when he used 'Trekkie' on stage. He responded, 'Excuse me, did you say 'TrekkER?' The word is 'TrekkIE.' I should know, I created them." http://www.trekdoc.com/database/fanfeed/1.htm
