Towner, North DakotaTowner is a city located in McHenry County, North Dakota. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 574. It is the county seat of McHenry County. Geography Towner is located at 48°20'43" North, 100°24'22" West (48.345208, -100.406036). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.1 km² (0.8 mi²). 2.1 km² (0.8 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 574 people, 295 households, and 158 families residing in the city. The population density is 267.0/km² (694.0/mi²). There are 335 housing units at an average density of 155.8/km² (405.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 97.91% White, 0.35% African American, 0.35% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.39% from two or more races. 0.87% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 295 households out of which 18.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.7% are married couples living together, 6.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 46.4% are non-families. 42.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 23.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.95 and the average family size is 2.66. In the city the population is spread out with 17.1% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 20.7% from 25 to 44, 27.2% from 45 to 64, and 28.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 50 years. For every 100 females there are 86.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 82.4 males. The median income for a household in the city is $25,536, and the median income for a family is $44,375. Males have a median income of $29,500 versus $17,375 for females. The per capita income for the city is $19,598. 10.2% of the population and 3.2% of families are below the poverty line.
