Tabor City, North CarolinaTabor City is a town located in Columbus County, North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 2,509. Geography Tabor City is located at 34°8'55" North, 78°52'19" West (34.148621, -78.872073). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 7.6 km² (2.9 mi²). 7.6 km² (2.9 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 2,509 people, 1,020 households, and 637 families residing in the town. The population density is 329.5/km² (852.2/mi²). There are 1,116 housing units at an average density of 146.6/km² (379.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 64.61% White, 32.88% African American, 0.72% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, 1.16% from other races, and 0.44% from two or more races. 2.19% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,020 households out of which 27.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.2% are married couples living together, 17.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.5% are non-families. 34.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.37 and the average family size is 3.05. In the town the population is spread out with 25.5% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 23.9% from 25 to 44, 23.7% from 45 to 64, and 18.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 82.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 76.8 males. The median income for a household in the town is $22,551, and the median income for a family is $30,720. Males have a median income of $26,577 versus $18,750 for females. The per capita income for the town is $13,280. 26.0% of the population and 15.9% of families are below the poverty line.
