Ruzwana Bashir

Ruzwana Bashir was elected President of the Oxford Union in Michaelmas (September 29) 2004 and became the first UK-born Asian female to hold this position. She was originally from Skipton in North Yorkshire. Her term ended on December 5 2004 and she was succeeded by Laura Poots. She had been elected to the office on the previous election cycle, but a panel disqualified her after investigating an allegation that she had broken the electioneering rules by writing comments on her opponent's manifesto.
