PlurPLUR - Peace, Love, Unity, Respect. A credo of the rave culture. Many in the rave scene have heard this term at sometime or another, although its common usage is relatively recent. Early 90s and mid-80s 'ravers' often followed similar principles, but did not use this coinage to describe their beliefs. It may be interpretted as the way that a raver believes he or she should live his or her life, and how people are expected to behave at a rave. PLUR can also seen as a more mainstream variant of its predecessor LPE (Love Peace Ecstasy), because it removes the drug reference. LPE was mainly used in Europe in the 1990s, when the Rave scene became a youth subculture. Peace - Violence is never the answer. Love - Acts and feelings of goodwill towards all others are a moral imperative with their own rewards. Unity - This can mean either that: A)Ravers are all united by the music. Race, gender, sexual orientation or background doesn't apply. B)All peoples of the world are united and the above therefore applies to everyone in all situations. Respect - A person must show regard for the feelings of others in their every action and inaction. Many ravers will also add the words "Responsibility" and/or "Kindness" at the end, feeling those virtues are sufficiently important to be explicitly, rather than implicitly, stated. The term was coined by Frankie Bones at a show hosted by the Storm Ravers (his 'crew'). According to legend, a fight broke out while he was mixing and he stopped the show to say, "You all better be showing some peace, love and unity." Later on, in discussions of the speech on the usenet newsgroup alt.rave, Respect was added.
