Peugeot 306

The Peugeot 306 is a sub-compact car manufactured by Peugeot. It was originally launched in March 1993 and was produced until 2001. The 306 is identical mechanically to the Citro%EBn ZX, which was launched two years earlier, and both cars use the same floorpan and core structure. Using the familiar PSA powertrains to drive the front wheels, the 306 was criticised for lacking in design flair, since it was intended to partially replace the 205. Initially, the car was only available as a hatchback, but sedan, station wagon (estate) and convertible bodystyles became available in later years. The 306 GTi6, released in 1996 mated a 167bhp XU engine with a class-leading 6-speed gearbox to produce the flagship of the Peugeot range, both in handling and speed. Until the launch of the Ford Focus in 1998, the 306 was widely regarded as having the best ride and handling characteristics throughout the range of any car in its class.
