. He was the son of

and the brother of
Gaspar Corte-Real
. Gaspar disappeared near
Newfoundland
in
1501
. Miguel set out an expedition to search for him, but he disappeared as well. Some scholars believe he made inscriptions on the
Dighton Rock
. They discerned the Portuguese
