Mercer is a city located in McLean County, North Dakota. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 86.

Geography

Mercer is located at 47°29'26" North, 100°42'41" West (47.490594, -100.711254). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²). 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is land and 4.55% is water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 86 people, 49 households, and 22 families residing in the city. The population density is 150.9/km² (398.2/mi²). There are 56 housing units at an average density of 98.3/km² (259.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 100.00% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 49 households out of which 18.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 36.7% are married couples living together, 4.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 55.1% are non-families. 55.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 32.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.76 and the average family size is 2.59. In the city the population is spread out with 16.3% under the age of 18, 2.3% from 18 to 24, 20.9% from 25 to 44, 29.1% from 45 to 64, and 31.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 51 years. For every 100 females there are 75.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 71.4 males. The median income for a household in the city is $28,750, and the median income for a family is $46,250. Males have a median income of $48,125 versus $15,000 for females. Out of the total population, 23.5% of those under the age of 18 and 34.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
