Kief is located at 47°51'32" North, 100°30'44" West (47.858962, -100.512311). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.2 km² (1.2 mi²). 3.2 km² (1.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.61% water.
