James LindJames Lind (1716 - 1794) Surgeon in the Royal Navy (1739-1748); physician to the Royal Naval Hospital at Haslar (1758-1783); founder of naval hygiene in England and promoter of the use of citrus fruits and fresh vegetables to prevent and cure scurvy.
