Hudson Valley MallHudson Valley Mall is a shopping mall located in Kingston, New York. On February 13, 2005 the mall was the scene of a shoot out by a gunman. 2005 shoot out Robert Bonelli of Saugerties, New York entered the mall with an assault style rifle, and began firing his weapon inside the Best Buy located at the mall. The 24 year old man caused a panic as employees and shoppers began to flee the mall. Bonelli moved into the mall corridor and continued firing his weapon until he ran out of ammunition. After running out of bullets, he dropped his gun. At that point one mall worker grabbed his gun, and other tackled Bonelli. The mall was evacuated and Bonelli was taken into custody. Amazingly, no one was killed in the shoot out and only two people were wounded. One of the wounded was a twenty year old National Guard recruiter, and the other was a 56 year old man who had superficial wounds. Doctors feel that the younger man may lose his leg as a result of his injuries. Two other people had bullet holes in their clothing. Bonelli's motives are still unclear. Investigators had searched Bonelli's room at the home he shared with his father, and found what Ulster County District Attorney Donald Williams as "Columbine memorabilia." Officials described the young man as being fascinated by the Columbine massacre. Bonelli was taken to the Ulster County jail and held on charges of first- and second-degree assault as well as reckless endangerment charges. He could face as many as 25 years in prison. Court Trials On Tuesday April 5,2005, Robert Bonelli appeared in Ulster County Court facing 18 felony charges. Public Defender Paul Gruner entered, on Bonelli's behalf, a plea of Not-Guilty. The judge adjourned the case until April 25. In the news
