High Magick

High Magick (not to be confused with ceremonial magick) is the practice and study of esoteric and/or paranormal disciplines specifically designed to promote the Great Work, which is the perfection of the spiritual self so that one may help the World advance spiritually. High magick is not necessarily complex, difficult, or structured, although the majority of the individual systems used tend to be so. Thelema, alchemy, Rosicrucianism, and the initiatory and relevatory aspects of Wicca are some examples of high magick. Some people find the term "high magick" misleading, believing it means that this kind of magick is somehow better than "low magick". This is not true. Both styles of Magick can practically be used for the same purposes, normally it's just the tools and rituals that differ. Whether you choose to meditate on a stone or use some complex ritual involving talismans and banishings based on kabbalistic correspondences to accomplish the same does not really alter the effectiveness of the results. The easiest difference that can be discerned between the two is the fact that while "Low" magick is normally a bit more on the rustic side, working with nature and simplified versions of things (which, in no way limits their effectiveness)high magick is more of a "direct science",both, the rituals and the tools themselves normally being of a more intricate nature. The main reasons why there seem to be these two distinctions in magick is mostly due to the fact that during antiquity, the peasants normally were thought of to practice "Low Magick" due to their status while the Learned and Rich normally practiced "High Magick" due to their obviously greater ability to utilize a greater amount of knowledge and tools on their work.
