David Adams Richards

) is a
Canadian
author. He was born in
Newcastle
,
New Brunswick
and is an author of fiction, stage plays, screenplays and poetry. A graduate of
St. Thomas University
in
Fredericton, New Brunswick
, he has been a writer-in-residence at various universities and colleges across Canada. David Adams Richards has received numerous awards including a
Gemini Award
for scriptwriting for
Small Gifts
; the
Alden Nowlan Award
for Excellence in the Arts; the
Canadian Authors Association
Award for his novel "
Evening Snow Will Bring Such Peace
" and the
Governor General's Award
for the
1988
novel "
Nights Below Station Street
". He was also a co-winner of the
1999
Giller Prize
for "
Mercy Among The Children
". Richards is one of only three writers to win both fiction and non-fiction categories of the
Governor General's Award
