Christopher Finzi

Christopher Finzi, familiarly known as "Kiffer" (born 1934), is an orchestral conductor. The son of composer Gerald Finzi and husband of Hilary du Pr, Finzi's own musical career has sometimes been overlooked as a result of his illustrious relations. Like his father, Kiffer became a pacifist, refused to do his National Service, and was briefly imprisoned. After Gerald Finzi's death in 1956, Kiffer helped his mother, Joy Finzi, to found the Finzi Trust and preserve Gerald's memory. Following his marriage to flautist Hilary, they and their four children lived in a dilapidated farmhouse where Hilary's sister, the cellist Jacqueline du Pre, took refuge during the 1970s. Jackie's affair with Kiffer, apparently with Hilary's consent, has become common knowledge as a result of Hilary's memoirs and the film, Hilary and Jackie. From 1971 to 1997, Finzi was resident conductor of the North Wiltshire Orchestra. He remains particularly well-known as an interpreter of his father's music. Finzi, Christopher
