Chandler And Joey's Apartment

Joey and Chandler's apartment was not a main focal point for the sitcom Friends in the same way that Monica's apartment and Central Perk were. It acted not so much as a gathering place for the six friends, but as more of a sanctuary for its two residents, where they could drink beer, watch Baywatch, relax in their reclining chairs and play games such as foosball, 'hammer-darts', 'flame-ball' and the less popular 'extreme flameball'. It was also the home of The Chick and The Duck and the entertainment unit. The only consistent decorations in the apartment were a framed picture of Laurel and Hardy, statues of The Three Stooges, the two reclining armchairs, the foosball table, a large white porcelain dog that Joey had acquired whilst working on Days of Our Lives and a Magna Doodle on the front door, on which little jokes were often written. The apartment was a testament to Joey and Chandler's lazy lifestyle. Rather than buy a table to eat off of, they bought a foosball table and resolved to eat over the sink. When Chandler's bedroom door was accidentally sawn in half, it was left that way until Rachel moved in, even if though it consistently tripped Chandler up. In 'The One With The Cat' the apartment was robbed when Joey locked himself inside the entertainment unit.

Other residents of the apartment over the years included Kip - Chandler's original roommate, who moved out and got married, Eddie Minowick - a mentally disturbed man who terrorised Chandler when Joey moved out for a short period in the second season, Ross - who spent a couple of episodes there as he looked for a new apartment, Janine - a model who lived with Joey for a short time after Chandler left, and Rachel—who moved in for three seasons.

The Entertainment Unit

The Entertainment Unit was a piece of furniture/prop in the apartment which became something of a running gag. Joey originally started building it as a place where he and Chandler could put their mail, but decided to take it 'one step further' (Chandler asked if he was, therefore, building a post office). Although the unit was so big that it covered both of their doors, Chandler tolerated it for some time. In one episode Chandler insisted it be sold. Whilst showing it to one potential customer, Joey climbed inside one of the cabinets. The customer proceeded to lock him in and steal most of their possessions. Without any furniture, Joey and Chandler were forced to swap the entertainment unit for a canoe.
