Boardman is a town located in Columbus County, North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 202.

Geography

Boardman is located at 34°26'23" North, 78°56'55" West (34.439790, -78.948495). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 8.1 km² (3.1 mi²). 8.1 km² (3.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.64% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 202 people, 79 households, and 54 families residing in the town. The population density is 25.0/km² (64.8/mi²). There are 89 housing units at an average density of 11.0/km² (28.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 54.46% White, 44.55% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.99% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.99% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 79 households out of which 22.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.2% are married couples living together, 24.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.4% are non-families. 29.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.56 and the average family size is 3.15. In the town the population is spread out with 23.8% under the age of 18, 9.4% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 22.3% from 45 to 64, and 15.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 69.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 69.2 males. The median income for a household in the town is $20,500, and the median income for a family is $28,333. Males have a median income of $25,500 versus $20,417 for females. The per capita income for the town is $10,339. 27.6% of the population and 19.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 45.5% of those under the age of 18 and 28.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
