The Return Of The Native

The Return of the Native is a novel by Thomas Hardy, published in 1878. Clym Yeobright returns from Paris to his native Egdon Heath. Despite opposition from his mother he marries Eustacia Vye, who hopes to persuade him to return to Paris. But Clym goes blind and must eke out a living clearing the heath. Clym's mother dies and Clym finds out that Eustacia is indirectly responsible. Eustacia drowns and Clym becomes a preacher.
