philip v of macedon

Philip V was king of Macedonia from 221 BC to 179 BC. He belonged to the Antigonid dynasty. The son of Demetrius II and Chryseis, Philip was nine years old at his father's death in 230-229 BC. His cousin, Antigonus Doson, administered the kingdom as regent until his death in 221 BC-220 BC, when Philip was eighteen years old. Philip then ascended the throne and reigned until 179 BC. His reign was occupied in the vain struggle to maintain the old Macedonian supremacy in the Balkan peninsula, which became hopeless after the intervention of Rome and the decisive battle of Cynoscephalae (197 BC). He was succeeded by his eldest son, Perseus who ruled as the last king of Macedon.
