Although Ladin in Italian is referred to as "Ladino", this language should not be confused with another Romance language, Ladino (Judo-Spanish)
Ladin (Ladino in Italian, Ladin in Ladin) is a Rhaetian language spoken in the Dolomite mountains in Italy, between the regions of Trentino-Alto Adige and Veneto. It presents connections with the Swiss Romansh and Friulian. It is spoken in:

    • Santa Cristina (Ladin S. Crestina, German St.Christina),
    • Selva di Val Gardena (Ladin Slva, German Wolkenstein),
    • Badia (Ladin Badia, German Abteital),
    • Corvara in Badia (Ladin Curvara, German Kurfahr), and

The Ladin spoken in the Fassa Valley (Ladin Val de Fascia, Italian Val di Fassa) is also subdivided into two further branches, "Cazt" (pronounced "catzet") is spoken in the northern half of the valley, whereas "Brach" (pronounced "brak"), is spoken in the southern half. For example, in Cazt, water is "ega" (as in Elephant), whereas in Brach it is "aga".
  • the province of Belluno in
    • Livinallongo valley (Ladin Fodom, German Buchenstein) and at
    • Cortina d'Ampezzo (Ladin Anpz)
It is officially recognized in Italy and has some official rights in the region of Trentino-Alto Adige, while it does not have official status in the province of Belluno (Veneto region).
