George Clinton (Royal Governor)

George Clinton (c.1686-1761) was a British naval officer and political leader who served as the colonial governor of New York from 1743 to 1753. He joined the navy in 1708, and rose to the rank of Admiral in 1747. After he was recalled from New York, he served as a Member of Parliament from 1754-1760.
